Maxi Gomez
Seems to be piggy-backing off the back of the Arnautovic thread, but surely deserves a thread of its own?

He obviously would prefer to stay in Spain, but money may well talk. Fingers crossed.

Re: Maxi Gomez
I'm not at all sure this is going to work if his motivation is restricted to the money side of things.

We are a notoriously hard crowd to please when it comes to foreign strikers, have been disappointed before, and he is going to need time to adjust.

Bit concerned about this one.

Re: Maxi Gomez
I think our management team know a player when they see one, and they know what's needed in this league. It's not as if Ł50m is being handed to Roeder, is it?

It's clear that it's not about money, as we've offered him double and he's still keen on the Valencia move.

Pickled strikes again.

Re: Maxi Gomez
As Celta are insisting on the 50m being deposited in full, I don't see this going through for us.
The Valencia chief has said he's prepared to wait it out. So, we've basically been told by both clubs to shit or get off the pot.

Re: Maxi Gomez
My knowledge of him is limited to YouTube videos, but from what I have seen, he really isn't anything special. I'd rather give Hugill a game than an overpriced foreign mercenary who doesn't want to play for us.

Re: Maxi Gomez
I think you'll find he's cool about it - he's camping and fishing in Uruguay or wherever and leaving it for his agents to sort out. And I wouldn't take any notice of the media. I'll bet no journo has spoken to him directly.

I'm sure given an option of Valencia or WHUFC? Any sane person would pick Valencia.

Then say €40k pw from Valencia or £100k pw from WH and most sane people would say WHUFC...

Re: Maxi Gomez
Not sure I buy the 'he wants to stay in Spain' line. He's already moved from South America to Europe, and don't 22 year old kids pretty much go where their agent tells them to go, or maybe his parents are going to have a say too? Then there is the higher salary from us, which surely must be a factor.

Just a wait and see job innit.

Re: Maxi Gomez
When you're spending that sort of money it's got to be 100% right.
This surely isn't going to happen as he wants to stay in Spain .I want someone who wants to die for us and not a player if it goes through that gets homesick at the first sign of frost.

Hammer and Pickle 5:37 Mon Jul 8
Re: Maxi Gomez
Player wants to stay, but the agents want him to come for the money. This is the toughest league going and we’re known to speak our mind while having a very, ahm, different sense of humour.

Still, he might do a Tevez and we’ll love him.

Re: Maxi Gomez
I very much like the idea of us signing him.

If he wants to really play for us.

Its ok signing a mercenary if he knows our league and can fit in easily enough.

But coming from a different country, struggling with the lingo will only end up with the shit hitting the fan for all concerned.

Fun and games, eh.

I have never seen either Hugill or Gomez play but in Pellegrini we trust!

Unbelievable that you'd rather pick a 27 years old striker that managed 7 from 41 Championship and Cup games and Middlesbrough don't want, over a 22 years old international that has already scored more from almost half as many games as 5 years older Hugill!!!

Hugill over Gomez?!

I've read some guff on here over the years, but that's right up there with some of the shit Alex V types out.

Re: Maxi Gomez
We’ve been pursuing him for most of the year. Manager must really fancy him and reckon he’ll fit in, and he’s done pretty well on the signings front so far.

Hopefully we’re near to the end game with this saga either way.

Re: Maxi Gomez
Don’t buy this “he doesn’t wanna play for us” nonsense.
99.9% of footballers play for one reason - money. None of them play for us because they love West Ham.

99.9% will also move at the drop of hat for more money.
